St. Matthew’s offers several types of Mission Trip opportunities:
- Service – Service trips include annual summer Youth Mission trip to various locations in the United States and Adult Mission Trips to places such as Biloxi, MS; Minot, ND; Moore, OK.
- Partnership – Partnership mission trips travel to connect with our partner ministries – yearly in January to El Salvador and every three years to Meru Diocese, Tanzania. (Visit the Partnerships page for more information.)
- Pilgrimage/Education – Regularly, St. Matthew’s leads international pilgrimage/ education trips to places like Israel and Turkey to learn about places connected to our faith. Currently a trip to Germany “Lutherland” is being planned for Spring, 2015.
All of these trips, while planned to serve others, develop partnership relations, or learn about places of faith, give blessings to the participants and create long-term friendships.

Our youth traveled to Washington, D.C. to learn about hunger advocacy, as well as to work in an impoverished area in June, 2014. In June 2013, a group of high school youth and adult traveled to the East Coast to help rebuild in an area devastated by Superstorm Sandy last year. Fundraising began last fall. For more information about this trip, contact Gretchen Haugse, St. Matthew’s Youth Minister at 414-774-0441 or email@example.com.
Adult Mission Trips
May, 2015: Germany – Following the footsteps of where Martin Luther lived, preached, and where our Lutheran heritage began. An itinerary has been put together for St. Matthew’s by AMi Travel which visits all the Luther sites you’ve heard about in your Sunday school and confirmation classes – Erfurt, Eisenach, Eisleben, Leipzig, and Wittenberg. Additionally, we will visit Krakow, Auschwitz, the beautiful city of Prague, and Berlin. Our emphasis will be on history and music, and along the way there will be breathtaking scenery, magnificent churches and, of course, lots of gemutlichheit. Contact one of the pastors for more information or firstname.lastname@example.org.
