Covenant with Creation

God created this beautiful earth

In his hands are the depths of the earth;
the heights of the mountains are also his
The sea is his, for he made it,
and the dry land, which his hands have formed.
O come, let us worship and bow down,
let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!
For he is our God,
and we are the people of his pasture,
and the sheep of his hand. (
Psalm 95:4-7a)

Thanks for your Covenants with Creation
Covenants with Creation show cumulative efforts of congregation to use earth’s resources wisely.

It has been a blessing over the past month to read all of the Covenants with Creation as you return them with your pledges. I’m so heartened by the personal commitments you are making to care for God’s good creation. Your commitments are important steps in slowing the growth of our landfills, preserving our natural resources for future generations, reducing our carbon foot print and ultimately making the world more liveable for those who are most vulnerable. As you care for creation you make God smile.

Covenant with Creation available for 2011
Three years ago a Covenant with Creation was introduced as part of our Stewardship program. Many of you responded and have been living out your commitments by turning off water when brushing teeth, reducing your use of plastic bags, recycling and lowering your thermostats. Thank you for all you are doing to care for creation.

This year the Care for Creation team introduced a new Covenant with more suggestions for things we can do to live in sustainable ways. In Genesis we read that God created the world and God called it good.

We need to protect God’s good creation. Adopting the next covenant will help all of us live in more sustainable ways. By cutting our consumption a little we all work to make the world a better place for all. Please take time to discuss this covenant with your family. Thank you for giving consideration to these important behavior changes.

God gave us dominion to care for creation

Then God said, “Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air…and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
(Genesis 1:26)
